CLASSIC HUNTS - FAMILY ADVENTURES - WINGSHOOTING - AFRICAN SPECIES - TROPHY PHOTOS - HOME

The 2008 african safari hunting season is in full swing with some hunters already having returned while others are itching to get over there. In the north, west and central African countries hunters are heading over now for those magnificent Lord Derby Eland in CAR and the classic forest antelope, Bongo in the central rainforests. Others are looking forward to hunting one of the rarest species on the continent, the mountain Nyala of Ethiopia's Bale highlands.

Then around mid year the eastern and southern African countries kick into gear with the classic lion, leopard and cape buffalo hunts at their best. Not to be forgotten are the ranch hunting countries of South Africa and Namibia whose season runs pretty much all year and probably offer the most reasonable hunts on the continent.

Fresh from the SCI Reno convention, I offer some ideas of what is out there, what the hunts are costing and what the different countries have to offer.

NEW for 2008 are rough hunts in Zambia for Sitatunga, while there is talk of Uganda producing some buffalo with 18 " bosses at reasonable rates. The BAD news is that fees are up in most countries as the weak dollar means rising costs for operators in africa. The respective wildlife authorities have also demanded higher fees, especially in Zambia and Tanzania where your average Buffalo hunt has increased by as much as 40 percent.

We also have some excellent hunts in Benin for western Roan and savannah buffalo as well as Bongo and Giant Eland hunts in Cameroon and the CAR.

In South Africa we offer a large selection of plains game hunting with one of the industry's top operators - Kudu, Nyala, Gemsbok, Eland, Wildebeest, Springboks, plus all other species including the big 5.

Botswana is producing some excellent elephant and we have access to the Pandamatenga block which is good for bulls in the 60lbs class.

However we start with Zambia and list reasonably priced safaris for this country below. If you would like more information about any of the above countries or species please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone - Pete Swanepoel jnr

Sitatunga rough hunts for 2008

One of the most elusive and sought after species - Zambezi Sitatunga, is scarce all over the region.

We have two great concessions in Zambia with excellent success rates. The Bangweulu is the traditional Sitatunga capital of Zambia and hunts here have a very high success rate.

The second area we have is new and undeveloped with huge potential as I have personally seen big Sitatunga here on previous occasions. This is a rough trip however with no camp, no roads and mobile hunting, like they did in the old days, as we explore the area to set up for the 2009 season - email for details

10 day 2x1 Bangweulu Sitatunga Hunt - $16,750 all incl.

14 day 2x1 exploratory sitatunga trip from - $9,900
