Zambia offers hunting in the classical sense, vast unfenced wilderness areas which have remained much the same for decades where a plethora of game animals survive in unhindered solitude.
However of late Zambia's game ranching industry has grown considerably, partly spurred on by specific legislation aimed at nurturing this lucrative sector of the wildlife estate, yet mostly due to an increase in game on privately owned land.
Game ranches in Zambia resemble those found in the other countries - South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe - yet some also differ, offering hunting which is akin to a safari in one of the government wilderness GMA's and this is one of the major positives about this type of hunting in Zambia. You do find great swathes of unfenced Africa under private ownership where conservation, anti-poaching and limited off take of species has far exceeded that of government hunting areas and thus you find tiny hunting Edens brimming with Zambia's best trophy hunting.
Along with this comes a great variation of unique species which you'd pay high dollar for in the southern neighboring countries. Africa's best Sable, Sitatunga, the attractive Kafue Lechwe, Roan, Livingstone's Eland, Lichtensteins's Hartebeest, Crawshay's Defassa Waterbuck, Puku, Chobe Bushbuck, Oribi, Sharpe's Grysbok, Blue Duiker, Yellow Backed Duiker and all the other more common plains animals like Kudu, Zebra, Impala, Warthog, Duiker, Bushpig etc. IN ADDITION many of the larger ranches, especially those that are unfenced and lying next to or near one of the national parks, have Lion and Leopard as part of their annual quota.
Without a doubt, these larger unfenced ranches offer excellent hunting, if not the best available in Zambia and they are certainly worth the time and money as you are still hunting untamed Africa BUT with one plus - these private properties have been conserved and well looked after.
Below is a list of some of the ranches available for hunting on - some fenced others open and wild - and also their respective strengths and what you should consider when hunting here. EMAIL or call Pete Swanepoel jnr for any help, advice or further information - +1-720-277 1920

Zambia's best deal for Sitatunga in 2009
We can't make a difference to high government fees so we have added MORE VALUE to our Sitatunga hunts for 2009 - bad economy means you get more!
For 2009 I have located a new sector of the Bangweulu swamps which has been un hunted for a number of years and our plan is to open up this area with our Sitatunga Expeditions.
In line with our philosophy on the true way to hunt this elusive antelope, we structure this 'expedition style' safari over 14 days with very little extra costs to you - However this is a rough trip with nights out on the open plains and in the swamps after big bulls and days spent scouting new areas and building blinds and muschanes, eating from the fire and helping out. We drive you in and out so no expensive charter fees. Price for a 14 day trip is:
1x1 Safari Sitatunga = $12,800
2x1 Sitatunga Safari = $9,800
Dates: from August thru October 2009 email for more details on this hunt! or call Pete at 720-277 1920 |
